They used to sell these at a novelty shop in Gatlinburg. I was kind of disappointed when they stopped but I always thought they were kind of ugly.

Years of studying and years of just seeing stuff for sale. The other day when I was helping an estate sale price stuff, I see a pair of shoes in the “donate” pile of old clothes. I grab them and show her these shoes are $100-$250 pair of shoes. They were Converse Chuck Taylor black label sz 16 (yes, sz 16!!!). They are only two pair on eBay, one sold for $100, other sold for $250.
They were going to throw away.
I also came across a box contain 6 boxes of Crayola crayons. I notice they were old. I look them up, they were worth $10-$20 a box. They were from the 60’s. She would have put $1 on the whole lot.

I’m pretty sure I made my parents buy me one of those hideous things when we were on vacation somewhere in the late 70s.

In game follow up for the Sunday morning Shop

So far I’ve bought an all clad nonstick frying pan in pretty good condition and a whole box of those stupid travel souvenir spoons. I spent $14

Friend,

I collect travel spoons and magnets, but I only buy them new in gift shops in cities and national parks we visit.

use to show up a couple hours early just to be number one, especially if I worked the night before, I’d head over when I got off. This was back when I collected LSU and toys. I showed up at John Ferguson’s estate sale at midnight to guarantee me to be #1
I don't mind your threads, they're pretty neat, but this is pretty cringey.

That was the only time I’ve ever showed up really really early for an estate sale, but if you know who John Ferguson is, and you collected LSU, you would’ve done the same thing. I’m talking about one of a kind pieces, rare programs, books etc.
I know of people who showed up the day before at 7 PM and spent the night in the Driveway, to guaranteed to be number one. It was the athletic director of LSU in 58. It was his estate sale

This is cool how much do you pull in a month doing this? Are winter slower? Do you just do this for fun/side hustle?

This might me something you rather not share and that's cool.. Understand if so, but what is the most profit you ever made on a single item?

I don’t get the hate for these threads. Have you seen what the OT has become? These threads are not the issue.

Straight up profit, it would be the speakers I bought last year. I paid $375, sold for $1600. I bought a chess set for $350, sold for $1500+. In twenty years, that’s the only two times I’d have ever sold a single item over $1000. I have my painting I paid $125 for, it’s “valued” at $7500-$10,000. I’ve had two offers of $1000.
My greatest mass purchase was a ton of Mego toys. I paid $175, sold for nearly $7000. I’ve had quite a few purchases of entire collections for $100-$1000, that sold for $1000’s.

My purchase yesterday has potential to be my greatest purchase, that weird instrument I paid $20. I found one (actually the OT did), they are asking $1600.
Those Saints tickets maybe top 10 flip percentage wise. I paid $5, sold for $680.

It’s all for fun, the money is lagniappe. It’s all about the hunt. I think there’s more garage sales in winter than summer in BR because of the heat.
I probably average $200-$300 a month

Was the chess set an old set that was in good condition? Was the board a table?

My grandpa used to have a chess set in which the board was a table. He got it soon after coming home from the war. When he past away 8 yrs ago one of his siblings mentioned it and wonder what he ever did with it.. Because he loved to play chest and they never found it.

More than likely he gave it to a friend since all of his grandkids were old enough to the point he rarely had the opportunity played with/teach us anymore. But thinking back, that would have been a cool set to have.

Actually there was no board, just pieces. It was hand made by Anri. I’ve made a ton of money off Anri, maybe $10,000. I bought two Anri sets that day. The other set was $200, sold for $600
