We just need to eliminate the idea that it's acceptable for police to shoot to avoid all risk.

It's not. It's acceptable to avoid significant risk of severe bodily injury or death, but it's not reasonable to shoot a golden retriever to avoid being nipped, or kill a guy to avoid a small rock-induced contusion.

Exactly, Pettifogger. Very well said.

And to those saying that you have no sympathy for a guy throwing rocks at cops, it's not about being sympathetic towards the guy. It's about whether the officers were justified in taking this man's life. I don't think they were.

Something is seriously wrong with the way these cops are being trained.

If these cops aren't put in jail, nothing will happen of course, but it will be another step towards a worse America to inhabit.

that's messed up but damn if you are going to throw rocks at 5-O then you have to expect it not to turn out so well for you.

Very first thing that popped in my head, and they look like they all missed. Who the frick knows where those rounds ended up?

They need badges revoked for that alone.

American infantry have stricter rules of engagement than the police. They should probably flip things around.

Yep.
Pretty sure if some soldiers did to an Iraqi exactly what these cops did to an American and it was on video, they would be court-martialed.

It's how they've been trained. It's not about making judgements, it's all about self protection. They shoot because they can.

cops are pussies. they have 4 officers.

also not sure it was mentioned but he threw something and they shot at him initially, he runs across the street hands up the entire time, turns and they gun him down.

cops wont get convicted. im sure they were "afraid for their lives"

we dont know the back story.

Another day, another group of cops exacting unwarranted use of deadly force on unarmed civilians. At this point we might be safer with armed militias walking around to protect us from these clowns.

Thank God I was in the right place ,at the right time ,with the right kind of cops 27 years ago. I was 17, a HS senior, and we had what we called a cul-d-sac party. A ton of new S/Ds were being developed in our area when I was in HS and we(teens) would meet and party in the cul-d-sacs on weekend nights. Two patrol cars came screaming into the one we were in on this particular night. About 60 teens went scattering into the adjacent wood lines like Pheasant in a field when hunting dogs approach. I saw they were city cop cars and with that I knew I had a good rapport with them. I was typically the "spokesman" because I was a good salesman, even at that age, and also because many of the local cops were former little leauge coaches of mine. So, I , as usual, did not flee but waited to assure them I would get everybody to disperse. Unfortunately, a few of my friends were total nut jobs and as I started talking to the cops, an arsenal of rocks started raining into the cop cars where we were standing. Two of my nut job friends were making siren noises also....mocking the cops. I was hiding behind a cop car with the cops when one got into his car to talk on the horn. His windows getting busted up all the while. No sooner had he flipped the horn on and down the hill comes 2 Cobb County cars. The craziest of my friends throwing the rocks ran out of the woods doing his hand in circles over his head and doing the vocal siren . I watched as three cops chased him around and when he punched one as they got him cornered against a truck. Of course, he went down hard and took a pretty decent beating but still not enough to break any bones. Cops cuffed him and put him in the car. One looked at me and said something like "y'all have 10 minutes to get out of here or everyone, including you, is getting arrested." I yelled to the woods saying "they will be back in 10 minutes. If you don't want to be arrested you better get in your cars and go...now." Again, sounded like dogs chasing hogs as 60 people came scampering out of the woods to their cars, trucks and jeeps. Might have been an El Camino there too.

In this day, in many cities, my dumbass friend would have been shot with a quickness. Cop mentality is much different today and the video in the OP is just another example of that.

Damn dude, that's crazy. We had plenty of parties broken up as a teenager, but no one was dumb enough to throw rocks at the police. Your boys must have been out of their minds.

Cops in my neighborhood were really hit or miss. Some were complete dicks and were lying sacks of shite who would say and do anything they could to peg a teenager with something because... well, you're easy pickings as a teenager.

On the other hand, some were really easygoing. We had a week-long kegger at a friend's house for spring break one year. As baseball players, we didn't get spring break really. We had practice and shite. But one guy's parents went on vacation and every night for a week we went and got hammered at his house. Cops didn't finally ticket him with an MIP or disturbance until I think Friday, after they had been called to his house every night before for four or five consecutive nights.

Does anyone really know what went on prior to the video? Cause the first reports on Trayvon and the Gentle Giant were not even close to the truth. Hell, even the second and third reports were tall tales that rivaled Paul Bunyan
