i'd make fun of BR traffic again but i was in a 2 hour jam yesterday after a shoot-out with cops on i65 here in nashville.

if they would have done anything with the money they already collected with the existing gas tax, they might have some credibility. But they didn't. they lied and misspent OUR money. frick them all in their goat smelly politician asses.

Years of posts like this to come along with miserable infrastructure with the failure to pass the gas tax. Our "leaders" have failed us.

Wasn't the whole selling point of riverboat gambling and the lottery in LA that the money earned would all be poured into the school system? I'm pretty sure that's what they told us, and you see the condition of our public schools.
shite like that is why people don't want to vote for any taxes of any kind, even when, in theory, it would be a great idea and fix a lot of shite.
The politicians have created this problem themselves.

we have a gas tax. We've had one for years. About 25 years to be exact. We also have nothing to show for it. DOT and the legislature have been complete crooks. Thats why I am so opposed to ANY new/additional tax.

correct. Powerball was also going to be "dedicated" to education. And, originally, it might have been. But the legislature decided that they would cut education by whatever amount the lottery and gaming contributed. So it ended up as a "zero sum" effort, not the extra revenue and additional funding that was promised. Same with the gas tax. The money doesn't go to roads. It gets put towards a special fund or for pay raises- not maintenance/construction. People have had enough.
well most people. some like Slippy believe all the Chicken Little stories and bogus promises by the legislature or entities (like LSU) that keep getting the money. As a result they support more taxes. Its pathetic.
