Perhaps I'm incredibly naïve, but what is the value in stealing a car long-term? If this is some Gone in 60 Seconds type of shite, surely they're not looking for Hyundai Elantras, right?

New Orleans is a great place for about 2-3 months a year.

But many of these carjackings end up with the car being found later. I don't get it.

Port of New Orleans--shipping container and in 48 hrs its on its way to Mexico, Nigeria, or Brazil unless its used for homicide purposes then its burned off I-10 in New Orleans East or on Chef Hwy in NOE.

Good for committing crimes such as robbery because you're only in the car for a short time

If I get bumped by a sketchy looking car at night, I'm driving to a police station.

If someone stole my car right in front of me, I'm scared I'd shoot em. Which would probably end with me going to jail

Aren't stolen cars good for other crimes? Steal a car, go pull off a bigger crime, ditch the car that won't lead back to you...?

Some of them just ride around the hood in it for a few hours. A lot of these types aren't big on cost/benefit analysis or long term planning.
