Yeah I have a good buddy who hates these days. He was one of the marines in Iraq, has ptsd and all that.

Yep, I still do, but those noises are anticipated. However, every once in a while someone will shoot a .338 Lapua or the like nearby and I’ll wince a bit.
Anticipated and in a controlled environment.

Personally I don’t have a problem with Christmas, New Years and Fourth of July fireworks at all. Enjoy them. Just get a little miffed sometimes with the punks who carry on for several days afterward.

Used to work with a couple Vietnam vets. Used to love hearing their stories. Some were pretty goddamn funny and weird

This isn't a thing, veterans aren't bothered by fireworks
Go to an active war zone for a few years then come back and see if you feel the same way
I have never seen combat, thank God, but I’m smart enough to understand the fricking horror show that some of these guys and girls go through. TYFYS vets and for giving us the opportunity and freedom to spend disposable income on such silliness as fireworks

I get it, man, you want veterans to be protected from your imagination seeing as they're so damaged and fragile.

I'm responding to that with this:

My nextdoor app
before someone starts with this nonsense this year too... Do not ask people not to pop fireworks out of “concern for the veterans”. We know the 4th is coming. We have calendars. We also know the difference between the sound of fireworks and a high explosive. Hint, it’s in the rate of deflagration and manifests in the sharpness of the explosion. We know. We know to prepare for it if does bother us. The VA or our GP’s bend over backwards to assist those of us who do need that help. Because we’re veterans.
But ESPECIALLY don’t try to use US because YOU have a nervous dog you are too irresponsible to bring inside, close your gate or go to your veterinarian and get a calming agent for. That just pisses us off.
Sincerely,
A Disabled Veteran
