We have half days from now until 12/22. Go back to school 1/10. Nice break, spending 9 days in Vail, CO!

We complain about teachers complaining.

congrats on the 4 extra days

Same here. I work a few days next week then I don't go back until January 3rd. The first is on a Sunday so we get the 2nd as our Holiday. I'm going to use 6 vacation days but be off 12 days when you throw in the weekends and holidays. It is nice to have 4 weeks paid vacation that I can take any time and not have to anxiously await spring break or Christmas break.

Plus it's nice to be able to take vacations in October or any other month when all the kids & teachers are stuck in school. Makes for much more enjoyable vacations when it's much less crowded and kids aren't everywhere.

Congrats!!

You traded a chance at a successful career in order to teach 4th grade English just so you can have 2 weeks off at Christmas.

We're all jealous...seriously.

Then again, you never really had a much of a chance at a decent career so you've probably reached your ceiling anyways.

2 week bender of as much alcohol and porn as humanly possible.

OT ballers who really work at a god damn Lowe's or TGI Fridays can suck my dick.

But 349 days of miserable hell.

Most teachers here are 9-month teachers, meaning they get summers off in addition to a couple of weeks for Christmas, a week for Easter/spring break, and a week for Thanksgiving. So, all in all, about 180 days of miserable hell.

It is the best of both worlds. I take off for almost 2 weeks while my daughter is on Christmas break. Then I take off other times in the year whenever I feel like it.

Don't forget teachers get their pension that they can retire at 48 years old.
Meanwhile, you'll need to work an additional 20 years to get SS.

This thread is a ridiculous.

My wife gets up at 3:30AM to handle car riders and does lesson plans until school starts, and works again from 3-11PM and on weekends grading papers. You guys just don't know what kind of sacrifices her and her colleagues put in.

Plus she has to walk to school (can't afford car), sometimes on bloody calluses and without shoes because she spends so much of her own money on materials to do bulletin boards in her classroom.

My wife and I are both teachers and it is great. We are both off at the same time and we love to travel. I also coach football and it is a lot of time away from home but I love my job.
I also work a side job engineering platforms, stair rails , and caged ladders for a welding company so that takes care of the social security when I retire at 44. My wife owns her own monogramming and vinyl shop in which I also help.

We get out of school on Wednesday and after Christmas we are flying to Alaska for the remainder of our break.

I love being a teacher, but luckily I teach at a great school. some teachers have the right to complain especially if you teach in east baton rouge or Orleans parish.
