Yes, it's extremely high. However, their government actually works for the most part and doesn't squander 90% of it like what happens here. They don't go 50k or 100k in debt for college. It's a homogeneous population. Or was, we'll see what the immigration does. Won't be anything good, that's for sure.

Sweden has done aight

This is a fallacy. Their government can focus their dollars on "socialist" pet programs because they have a homogeneous population and no defense.

Taxes are higher in the US than Sweden (24% higher for individuals and 52% for corporations). Most of these Scandinavian countries that get labeled as socialism working have some of the most aggressive business/tax friendly policies in the world.

Yeah, but maybe not in the sense you mean. It's a mess cause anyone with an education and the means is immigrating to Miami or Houston. A brain drain of epic proportions.

My friend who I visit pays 56% in taxes

That feels pretty socialist to me

ETA: He is a doctor. He lives in a small modest house with a small modest car

His neighbor who works the grounds at their golf course which is closed 3 months of the year lives in an almost identical house with identical car

I could get lost because every house was the exact same.

Sweden is strange

The are pro capitalism for business, but they tax the individual high but provide pension, health, education through PHD programs, child care, and a ton of holidays

Oh the names I was called a decade ago by the usual suspects when I pointed out the obvious direction Venezuela was headed. Humans NEVER learn .

All political systems fall somewhere on the continuum between fascism and communism. There is no one-size-fits-all socialism. Sweden's system works just fine for them.

Yep. They charge you for those services. I believe on your check stub that stuff is itemized.

I guess my point is they may not meet the actual definition for socialism, but from my experience they meet the socialism from a colloquial view that I have

THe majority of people live the same lives no matter being a physician or garbage driver. The majority has enough for a comfortable easy going life but not a rich life. I dont see many poor nor rich people

The parks, museums, schools, and transportation run by the govt paid for by the people all seem to run smooth and efficiently etc etc

If you actually knew jack shite about either of them you’d know there isn’t a dime’s worth of difference between communism and fascism. They’re two sides of the same coin.

You have clearly not actually been to Sweden. Don't believe everything you read online, especially what you already want to hear.

The problem seems to be when the government decides that what is best is to steal from the rich to give to the poor. What we're seeing in Venezuela now is right out of "Atlas Shrugged" - the people who actually knew how to generate wealth got out when they could and now the military runs what little is left.

For example, under Chavez gasoline was incredily heavily subsidized and poor people were literally given houses. That got him (and Maduro) lots of votes but there's only so much money to redistribute.

Sweeden isn't real socialism. They're a social democracy. They are only partially socialist (ie: healthcare).
