Unless you live in an apt, you can’t exactly keep an eye on a guy around your entire house. It’s quite impossible from inside. There are multiple entry points and impossible to guard them all.
Do you get the impression this guy was sprinting around the perimeter or something? Pick a window and watch the side he’s on. Proceed to a new room when he rounds the corner? also security cams are pretty easy.

I also love how you are trying to pint the picture this is a drunk stumbling kid. It could have been a drunk and irate very aggressive male. Being drunk doesn’t make you harmless by any means. Every bar fight is with drunks and a shite ton of damage can be done

The guy tried to continue to enter the home AFTER A WARNING SHOT WAS FIRED
And normal human is going to think that man means extreme harm

Obviously
But I don’t have to play Rambo on every drunk college kid. It’s bad for them. It’s bad for me.
If you would prefer to be in this guys shoes, that’s up to you but I’d want no part of killing someone. If they are imminently close to causing serious harm, sure… you do what you have to do. But you sure seem to be eager to do it.

This goes back to the backbone/pussy thing from earlier.
Are you 20 years old?
You’re talking about life and death situations as if they are schoolyard scraps. And the irony is that if you really thought of it as a schoolyard scrap you wouldn’t go out there with a deadly weapon.
If someone is actively trying to break into your home, it may be the right decision to go out and confront them and it may be the right decision to stay armed in your home and wait for more information. In this case, based on what’s in the OP, it appears to have been the wrong decision.

I kind of figured you were that type as soon as you replied.

It seems your awareness and information processing is pretty low. I’m not sure you should have a gun if that’s how poorly you understand the world happening around you

If someone is so fricked up on drugs or anything else they try to gain entry into your home they AFTER HAVING A WARNING SHOT fired at then, there is no telling the amount of damage they could do to you if you let them enter

Then shooting them is the best and most appropriate course of action. Property crimes need to be taken more seriously in this country. When you forcefully break into someone else's house unwanted, you are acting like less than a human being and should be treated as such.

There is literally a case the OT loved where a kid so fricked up he killed another man with his bare hands. Acting like being drunk makes the kid less of a threat is ridiculous. It makes him MORE of a threat

Why do you keep saying he was trying to get into the home after the warning shot? That’s not in the OP unless I overlooked it.
And the choices aren’t “go outside and confront them” and “let them in to have their way with your family”. Why are you so stupid about this?

I'm pro home owner in 99 percent of these situations including this one.
However, unlike most of these incidents I do feel bad for the kid.
He doesn't seem like he had ill intentions or was some kind of thug.
It truly is a case of a bad decision costing him his life.
He seems like a good kid just reading about him and glancing at his FB profile.
I wish there was a better resolution.
Would I have shot him? No. I would never go outside to confront a potential burglar with my family inside.
I'd call the police and wait inside ready to blast if he came in.
But I can't blame the homeowner.
Not guilty. But tragic.
Again, 99 percent of the time I'm like good riddance when these clowns get got, but not this time.

Yes, I also believe protecting my family can include stepping inside as opposed to confronting any possible threat. I’d like to keep my risk of going to jail low. I’d like to pay for their college instead of my legal fees. It better damn well be death coming through my door before I shoot someone and jeopardize all that.

Tezeno continued to approach the homeowner and the homeowner shot him twice, the Sheriff said.

The most important thing I learned in CC Class was how much you'd have to pay on average in legal fees for a justified shooting.
I will say this as a huge gun guy, I am not convinced this guy should have shot this kid.

We know that now after the fact. Like I said earlier this is a decent neighborhood but some real sketchy shite goes on just a few streets over.

I have a large house with a lot of land and know more about firearms, security, and dealing with "the world" than you will ever know. You know nothing about my situation or what works best for me, or probably even yourself.
You're anti-gun and soft. Ideally, you'd just sit down and shut up. But, the internet gives you the opportunity to run your mouth to people who know more than you...so, here we are.

Me too. Running out into the backyard the first time someone rattles my front door handle could likely get me shot in the back and my family left to defend themselves.
