I’m certainly not ghetto. I despise the filth and how they continue to ruin everything. Seems you might be ghetto since you’re getting defensive about it.

Amtrak to Chicago

That's called The City of New Orleans Amtrak.

It travels between New Orleans and Chicago with a stop at Memphis

And Greyhound runs 3 buses a day from New Orleans to Mobile.

A ticket is $28.

The railroads stopped passenger service because they lost the U.S. Mail service contracts.

The mail paid for most of the cost of passenger trains.

On May 1,1971, Amtrak was born as an Abomination created by Congress.

I was throwing in state tax. Still 25 billion Fed excise tax is not gravel roads. My suggestion is raise the Fed gas tax to cover maintenance and growth.

State gas tax to cover State roads, county gas tax to cover county, city gas tax to cover city roads.

Makes sense. Will never happen. Imagine gas jumping 50-75 cents overnight.

Suicide mission for whatever politician does that.

They don't have the guts to balance the budget now.

Another source of income is commercial trucking. I think they pay a significant amount based on weight and axles, but I don't know if the Feds take any of that.

All those interstate highways were 100% funded by taxpayers...

… with user fees AKA a gas tax.

Are the Amtrak fares going to pay for this? Seems doubtful.

We write a check to nation the size of New Jersey every year for $4.8billion every year.

I don't think being good stewards of our tax dollars is a priority.

Maybe you and I will slightly benefit from this deal once?
