It's true. Everyone in the service industry here is mega nice.
It's the #1 thing that turned me off about Portland, by far. I went there on a trip expecting it to be like a more lush Austin. It's sorta like that, except that everyone in the service industry there completely sucks at life. Distant, vacant, no interaction, no personality, can't strike up a conversation with anyone. It's really weird. People are nicer in Manhattan. I'm dead serious about that.

This is true, but I live in the central city (my street is in the lower 30s) and I work from home, so I get to enjoy how badass this city is without having to commute through the traffic, which is legitimately cut-your-wrists awful. I would NEVER recommend moving here if you have to live in the burbs an commute. You'd be better off in Houston Dallas or SA if that were the case.

That's not how Californians feel about it. A lot of them move here for a year or two and then move back once they're disillusioned by it. They come here expecting to find a bubble of California in Texas only to find out that it is still Texas, it's just prettier, newer, nicer, and has a trendier vibe. Austinites are people who may smoke weed and like SUPing, but they have guns too. It's organic food... and pickup trucks. It just never sits right with them.

Which is way overrated. No BBQ worth that kind of wait. Austin food is ok but not great, with exception of migas and breakfast tacos. Ok, uchi too.

Like most cities, it depends where you live, how much you make.
I live in the north part of Austin, pay $1150 for a 750 sq ft. apartment that is less than a year old (I'm the first tenant in my unit). I find this to be extremely comparable to similar new apartments in Baton Rouge (at least in the parts of town I'd be willing to live).
As for traffic in Austin, like other places, just be smart when and where you're going. I live north and work in central Austin. It takes me 15 min to get to work, 30 min to get home. Traffic is heavy, but flows steadily for the most part. The worst part is getting through MoPac, but they are doing construction on it still.

C'mon now! BR may have the better food and arguably better looking women but that's about it.
Outdoors, Music, Downtown, Festivals, Economy ATX beats BTR by a mile.

Only tourists do this. I can walk into many BBQ places at any time of day with no wait. Or hit up one of the fast-casual places and it's no worse than any other restaurant (Slab BBQ, Pok-e-jo's, Rudy's)
