Usually, the crap part of all those states are where Obama democrats live. You know, on the govt teat, high crime rate, uneducated, democrat. As a matter of fact, Maryland is one of the top 10 most dangerous states to live in. What they dont tell you is that it is because of violent crime and it is concentrated in 2 or 3 counties. Those 2 or 3 counties have so much of it, it affects the whole state to the point that it makes the top 10 list of most dangerous states. Care to guess who makes up the majority population in those counties? Yup, Obama not yo mamma democrat voters.

States where a majority of the residents are poor and uneducated? That'll do it.

Well, there are a lot of democrat voters in the south. Js. Certain democrat voters are concentrated in the south. It is also stated in studies that if you are not married and a single parent, it multiplies your chance of living in poverty many times over. We all know if you are on the govt teat and get married, you lose many benefits so there is that at well. Democrat voters, single parents, poverty seem to go hand in hand. Crime, murders, poverty, uneducated, single parents, democrat bastions, always bringing the rest of the states down. smh

Ah yes, Louisiana is in the top tier of states currently. But if those bastards from New York and California show up, the state will be ruined!

5. Tennessee

Thanks, Memphis.

Still think this ranking is bullshite. Nashville and Chattanooga are both incredible. As are the burbs of Nashville.

Tennessee is the lowest debt state in the nation and Middle TN is the #1 Housing market in the US. Couple that with amazing topography, no state income tax, and low cost of living, me thinks this article is fricking nonsense. The 1500 families a month relocating to middle TN would agree if I'm a gambling man.

But yeah Memphis sucks

Exactly

Memphis gets a bad rap imo. It offers a lot of good, attractive traits (St. Jude, FedEx, International Paper, Service Master, strong music backbone, excellent BBQ) to help counteract the bad.

Sure, the crime is abysmal and the town itself is aesthetically unappealing, but it's an old, dirty riverboat town. In that sense, it shares similar traits and qualities to New Orleans in my opinion - just not as good or appealing.

But, any town built off blues and bbq is with me.

I like how liberals like to go on about how red states are poor, have the most welfare, etc. If you judge a state by levels of consumption, which I think is more indicative of wealth, then you find red states are in much better shape than the guy in SF that makes $250k a year but has two roommates in a flat and has to commute an hour to and from work. While "poor" Billy Bob has a two thousand sqft house, a front and back yard, two cars in the drive way, has a small commute, etc

I meant "thanks, Memphis for the elevated crime and poverty statistics that bring Tennessee's ranking down in these lists every single time despite the fact the other two major cities are fantastic".

I love getting drunk, eating BBQ, and listening to blues in Memphis as much as anyone. I just ain't living there.

Fair enough, but it certainly would be an attractive, viable alternative compared to all of Tennessee's other towns (not named Chattanooga, Nashville/Middle TN, and Knoxville).

Have you ever been to Jackson, Cookeville, Clarksville, Union City/Martin, McMinnville? Dear God...

8. Alabama - GOP Gov

Alabama's state government has been under Republican control for less than 10 years. It was completely under Democratic rule for a century before that. I love my state, but only one party could possibly take credit for Alabama ever being in a poor state. It ain't the GOP.
