I wonder what consists of the "Professional Degrees" as they have stayed stagnant over the same time.

Generally speaking I understand that to mean doctors and lawyers. They may include pt, ot, etc... in there as well but I'm not sure. Basically a degree that is required to practice that profession (cant be a physician without an MD, cant be a lawyer without a JD, etc...).

In some scenarios people consider engineering a professional degree as well since you cant be a licensed professional engineer without an engineering degree.

Do you think Starbucks will hire me as a barista if I get a Doctor of Gender Studies degree?

A lot of fluff though. I don’t really view my doctorate in physical therapy any higher than those with masters or even the old timers with bachelors. Just a little extra bullshite while in school and a lot of selling by the faculty. Now if someone went and got a PhD in anatomy or a strenuous fellowship post grad that’d be more impressive to me.

Besides PT, Pharmacy is now a doctorial program as is audiology, and speech pathology, and I am sure these stats include the bazillion nurses getting MSNs and DNPs.

Yeah but a doctorate in lesbian dance theory does nothing but add to the crippling debt

How does it add to debt? You talking about the US debt or personal debt? Genuinely asking, not making a point.

Not completely true, some states will let you take the FE and PE with adequate experience working underneath a PE, New york being one of them- though it will take you 12 years. Also good luck passing the FE and all the calculus and physics without college- possible, but difficult.

Which fields the degrees were awarded for matter just as much if not more. A doctorate in some humanities field doesn’t do much unless someome wants to teach or do research. A better educated society is good, but not everyone can make $250k per year. We need to start pushing kids to look into skilled labor positions. Nothing wrong with being an electrician, a plumber or even a garbage collector. Anyone who works an honest job and pays their taxes has my respect. The world has a place for ditch diggers, and it always will.
