I worry about my parents being so far from everything if there is ever a major medical episode. My mom says they would just call an ambulance but with the spotty cellular coverage and GPS not going right to their house (they had to give me specific directions), I worry minutes lost could be catastrophic.

they'll dial 911 on their land line and the local volunteer fire dept. who knows exactly where they live, will ride out render assistance.

this. these kinds of threads may be thought provoking, but there is no correct answer cause everyone has different desires.

I’ve done both(big city and rural) and love both. Anyone who says there aren’t benefits to both is in denial.

I spent 10 years living in the bigger cities and now with work I live in a town of 7,000. I love it. I have acreage but I'm 200 yards from the golf course, 5 minutes from walmart, 8 minutes from work, and 10 minutes from the hardware store. The worst part of the country living is the 35 minute trip to town to go see a movie or eat at a different restaurant. I make less than my colleagues that live in the Houston metroplex but our cost of living is significantly lower.
