In high school and below I just wanted the teacher to shut up and tell me the ‘homework’ so I could finish it before class ended.

Modern day education is geared towards getting the dumbest, least interested kid to pass. I’m not shocked to hear this is case.

Yeah

My daughters teacher is doing daily "conference calls" with 10 students at a time. The first few days all kids were on, now it seems like maybe 3 or 4 are on the calls

And this is for a magnet school, so this would certainly be in the demographic of "parents that care"

Louisiana isn’t last in education by accident. Takes a lot of skill to be this lazy.

I doubt outcomes would be much different.

Me also on most of my classes, except math.

Definitely a lot more focus on those kids than ever before. People don’t realize how much resources of time and money go into special ed services, accommodations, and intervention type programs. But, it is what it is and it isn’t going away.

I agree. I have one at LSU, one in 9th grade, and one in kindergarten. Each has had insructors/teachers that have had to remind students that this is not a vacation. My younger two have regimented times to do homework throughout the day so they’re in a routine. I hate to say it but m not surprised by the lack of parental support.

We can't let it get to the point where these kids become adults who habitually post on some random internet forum all day!!!

compulsory educational system
I thought this was the land of the free? Why should we be forced to go to a place that teaches us lies? Thinking for yourself is essential, unfortunately 90+% of the population doesn't.

No we don't. School is nothing more than mass brainwashing and social conditioning that turns out low IQ after low IQ.

I'm not a teacher and I suck at it even when helping with homework, so I value those who can. Keep doing your best!

I’ve got parents who’ve asked me to stop sending reminds out so early in the morning (8 am).

I'm getting 3 emails a day from my daughter's teacher with more assignments for her to do. She's in KINDERGARTEN. On top of that, I'm paying a private school for my mom to teach her. It's looney town.

I’m struggling! I was super ambitious and wrote out a lesson plan for the week for each kid (1st and 4th). Their attitudes vary by day. Yesterday they were super engaged, worked quietly and independently. Today, it’s like pulling teeth. And I’m still trying to do MY work on top of this.

What I learned these past few weeks is that the schools essential role is to feed children and that education is non-essential.

I bet I've done a better job at teaching my step daughter the last 2 weeks than the school did. She's doing homework that I assign and she does a Skype with a tutor for 4 hrs a week.

She also staying physically active. Right now she's stacking oak that I am splitting.

Naw man. I was told autodidactic education was the way of the future and that holograms would replace all the lazy teachers.
