I'd hardly say it "shot up" if it only increase 4.6%. If it was 14.6% then yeah you can say "shot up"

People just learning from the government. Kick the can down the road. We all do it to some extent.

The difference is we can't make policy or print money (legally at least).

My wife and I together make 3x what our parents ever did, and we live 2/3 as well as they did.

The consumer and the economy are both to blame.

It really is amazing. I’m scrimping pennies to pay for daycare and have a semi-decent vacation once a year. We drive used cars that are basic models from Honda (for reliability). I buy a few new outfits per year and my wife doesn’t even shop that much. We make about $140k combined.

And there are assholes out there just going on spending sprees for the hell of it. How do they even survive that way? Doesn’t the credit card bill come due? Are they going bankrupt?

Speaking of spending sprees, I popped into Saks Fifth the other day just to take a look around. I didn’t buy anything but had some time to kill. The customers there certainly didn’t look like the privileged type to have the money to shop there. Are they just maxing out credit cards? $1 trillion of debt? I guess so.

No one wants to live without even when it is drastically needed. People still want to eat out, buy a new vehicle, buy new clothes, go on vacations..etc..even though their income can't support it.

They can make the minimum payments. They are hoping something big comes along to where they can wipe it all out and start fresh.

Then rinse and repeat.

HAHA, all you suckers preaching financial responsibility. Me, I have mountains of credit card debt across multiple Visas, MC, Discover, Lowes, Home Depot, Shell, Exxon and you think I plan on paying all that back? Chapter 7 baby!

Yes.

I have an apartment complex by my house that the OT would deem a shithole. It's not full blown crack den but it's old and worn down. People in there driving 80k Audis, Escalades, giant trucks. Notes on those are easily equal to the rent.

I get it but at the same time I don't get it

This combined with people not making 401(k) contributions or otherwise saving for retirement

I was just asking about how folks are still buying new cars with the insane prices and insane interest rates. I guess this is the answer.

Yeah creditors are why corporations are raising prices. Kraft just admitted that they have raised prices so much that sales are falling, but they does not matter because profits are up.

It's actually most people buying honda accords at a way too high interest rate because they have no choice because they need to get to work but the car note is like $795 due to inflated interest rates. it's either do that or lose your job.
