And FWIW FY 2024, the USPS accounted for a grand total of 0.058% of total federal spending with 4 Billion in federal funds going to the USPS. In other words, the USPS is mostly funded by it's own revenue. The USPS budget is approximately $80 billion. So the 4 billion in federal tax dollars that supplements the USPS represents only 5% of the USPS's budget.
So eliminating the USPS would basically do nothing to reduce the federal debt. It would be much more cost effective to keep the USPS but to ween them off federal tax dollars.

I doubt congress is much worried about, if at all. When folks like Nancy Pelosi, and I'm sure she has plenty of company D and R, can play the stock market and never ever miss what the hell do they care. They're going to be fine and so will their kids, grandkids etc etc.

I live in a city where UPS has WorldHub, know plenty of folks who work for UPS. They can barely handle the delivery traffic they have now in peak season.
ETA: There's a reason for certain packages and deliveries they defer to USPS after a certain point in the process. USPS is more equipped to deliver in rural areas as well.
Ok I'll take your word for it. But it is still a bloated and inefficient organization full of incompetent dei hires that could use a serious overhaul. Most of the post offices in my area are horrible.

Sounds good to me

Today is Arkansas Personal Property Tax Dedline. AS I wrote a check for $350 for two vehicle's one 13 yrs old, and one 7 years old, which I have done year after year, after paying Sales Tax on those two vehicles.
I say the government is slowly breaking us. When at least .50 cents on every dollar I make goes to a government entity something is wrong.

I don't know anyone who doesn't think it needs to be reformed.
That doesn't mean you throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Show the class your math for your alleged 50% tax rate.
We will wait.

The American public should have way more outrage about this. The cascading effects of the US being delinquent on even a single payment would be catastrophic.
It would throw our economy into shambles yet our Gov't has no intention of fixing it. It's truly outrageous.
Yet people are willing to sit in front of traffic for pronouns.
Our priorities are truly fricked as a country.

Scope of government is eating the economy alive.
We have to have some kind of change or massive innovation that allows this dysfunction to survive.
"Democracy" will usually fail because its a race to the bottom.

As pointed out by others in this thread. The USPS isn't "eating the economy alive". You have other budget issues that have far greater weight on the national debt. It is also a, rightfully, essential service.

Subsidizing the healthcare of fat, poor Americans and paying for their retirement will bankrupt us far quicker than the USPS

Show the class your math for your alleged 50% tax rate.
For Average Income earners, payroll alone is .20-.25 cents of every dollar goes to the government. (Fed & State)
Now throw in self employment tax, there is another 7.5% tax not included in the above total.
Then throw in all the other shite you pay when you buy something. Sales Tax, Property Tax, Personal Property Tax. What I pay in that is at least 75% of the total i pay in payroll taxes.
There is another 15 cents. so between the three your easily at .40 cents.
Then throw on top the taxes you pay on gas at the pump, regulatory taxes you pay on your utility bill.

I'm in the top 15-20% of earners in this country and i'm right at 25% so this is incorrect for your "average income earner".

Very few people are self-employed and this is not your "average income earner".

Do you know how much you actually pay in sales & property taxes? I suspect you have zero clue of the actual numbers.
So your entire argument is feels and you have no real clue what your actual tax burden is? This is typical and everyone overinflates how much they actually pay in taxes.
We can have the discussion around taxes being too high or government being wasteful, but you don't have to lie to prove your point.

Nothing will happen. Cutting enough to fix the problem or raising enough taxes to fix the problem are both political suicide. DOGE was a drop in the bucket and nothing to help. To truly solve the problem you have to make big cuts to Military, Social Security and Medicaid which everyone loves..... or raise taxes by 20-30% which nobody wants. So we'll just sleep walk into a crises and let the next generation deal with it.
