We had drone delivery of fast food in our small rural Texas town for about four years before it ceased operations about a year ago. We used it frequently.

Here is the delivery of our Whataburgers:

Wait until someone says "yay, here comes my Amazon package by drone" and it is actually a terrorist kamikaze drone.

200 feet up in the air at 70 mph. The locals don't have a chance at hitting one of those unless they catch it while landing.

Hell, even most duck hunters can't hit teal at 30 mph

Correct, and this service will only be offered to approved neighborhoods.
Much like the overnight (3 am) delivery that's available at my home but not to the Methlab Gardens subdivision down the road.

We used the local drone delivery service frequently and had accumulated many of their yellow bags with their logo. I had to change routers and modem at the local Spectrum office, and carried the old ones in a drone bag. A lady next to me asked about the drone, telling me she lived outside the delivery area. As I was telling her about how the system worked, an old rancher next to her said, "They better not fly that thing over my ranch, I'll shoot it down!"

Just checked on Google Earth and I'm just inside the stated 7.5 mi. limit. Hope I'm in the final cutoff when it actually starts.

This isn't for everyday orders, but I can see it being useful for certain things like the mentioned medicine etc.

All of the comments about shooting them down etc. are silly. They fly other places without issue, and it is a federal charge to shoot one. If someone is stupid enough then they will be made an example of.

ETA

quote:

Shooting down a drone flying over your property is illegal under federal law, even if the drone is trespassing or invading your privacy. Because the FAA classifies every drone as an “aircraft,” destroying one triggers the same federal statutes that protect manned planes, with criminal penalties reaching up to 20 years in prison.

They will be licensed as aircraft by the FAA, and firing on one will bring the same penalties as firing on a manned plane.

The live video will be recorded instantly to cloud storage. I would choose something else to be angry at.

ETA "NBR gonna steal them"

The proximity to the airport might limit the available airspace for much of North BR.

Interesting.

I had a battery go out on Saturday and didn't feel like trekking to Home Depot. Ordered it online, was delivered in an hour.

Those same gang bangers that were at the mall will treat this drone with dignity and respect.

Only in the immediate 1m area of the airport if they operate 200ft and lower as mentioned.

I’m picturing them jumping in the air and grabbing the drones with their ugly hands

Thought it was neat how they let you pick the drop off spot on a map.
