Until Alexa can make me a sandwich and bring me a beer, I'm not interested at all.

I keep mine on mute until I actually want to use it.

It’s interesting that a portion of our society, judging by a string of posts here, are completely okay with big corporations having the ability to record their private conversations. interesting

I assume just about everyone has a smart phone. What does Alexa do that you couldn't just pull your phone out your pocket and look up? I'm not being facetious, I'm old and I honestly don't understand what the appeal is.

They most certainly are able to record you. Anything with a microphone can record you.

It does thr same things without having to pull out your phone, just as a smart phone does the same thing your computer does without having to sit down at the computer.

Alexa is capable of making your life more convenient. We use the heck out of ours.

I, and most likely you as well, sold our souls to this a long time ago when we let smartphones, smart TVs, iPads, etc into our homes.

This is the downside to having dinosaurs in the legislature. The laws can't keep up with the times.

Exactly.

The same people bitching probably have smart phones. The government watches and listens through them. Siri is just one example. She has to constantly be listening to get voice prompts.
And Facebook has said, “if you have the app, we can listen through your phone whether you have a Facebook account or not.”

But oh no! Alexa lets the government listen in!

Why in the frick would you want something that literally records every noise 24/7? That’s just asking for our ubiquitous government to be storing that somewhere.

And other governments can hack the information. I wonder how many high ranking officials have one of these devices?

It doesn't though. It's short term storage looping waiting for the signal (Alexa or Hey Google) at which point it records your phrase long enough for the search query to finish.

If the police/government wanted to access the "recordings", they would literally only have 3-5 second snippets from whatever you said immediately after you asked/commanded to the Alexa/Google Home before it shuts itself off again.

No smartphone? Or TV? How about a tablet? Laptop?

Hell do you have security cameras that store video files?

You are being recorded.

I’ve embraced it as part of being a whore to technology.

I would advise some of you to do the same, instead of being willingly ignorant.

I have a Google Home Mini still sitting in a box. No one's been able to explain to me yet how it's supposed to make my life better.

I forgot about siri, I included in a reply. However, that still proves that Legislation/regulation has not kept up with technology.
