The city announced that Amazon is going to open a 56,000 square foot distribution facility. Construction is set to start the next few weeks.

Announcing and actually opening are two different things. Amazon has announced facilities all over the country the last few years, and a lot of them still are not operating.

If they’re smart, it will be staffed entirely by robots. If not, god help them.

And they’re supposedly opening 2 distribution center in Shreveport.

They’re going to have one in every city over 75K people?

Monroe isn’t close to 75k, might as well open one up in da Strop too.

Probably be like the one that they built in Shreveport that's been finished for a year now that is just sitting there doing nothing. I feel like they built it just for tax purposes/expenses.

There was one built 5 mins north of my house a couple of years ago and it never opened. I've only seen security guards in the parking lot when I pass by.

The Baton Rouge and Shreveport built distribution centers haven't even made it to production yet. There isn't enough demand.

And most of the work done inside a fulfillment center is via robot. The humans just pack the boxes.

Amazon's goal is 1 day delivery standard for Prime. To do that all of the FC's have to be built.

Cool tech but horrible place to work.

I thought I heard that they are going to start hiring at that one soon. Many of the jobs I saw were paying around $15,000.

A lot were delayed because of construction and material supply issues.

I think this is just a small last mile fulfillment center to support a better service level in that region.

They are fairly easy to stand up and open so delay potential should be low. Not like the massive new multi million square feet ones in Baton Rouge, B’Ham, Little Rock, Memphis, etc. that have delays with sourcing robotic parts and even construction materials.

IMO the stretch between Monroe and Ruston will turn out very nice in a decade or so if they are careful with how they grow.

Would love to see the pass/fail rate of the pre-employment drug screens.
