Liberal or conservative they offered to hire 1000 people and remove a tax burden from those individuals that actually pay taxes. Frick yes why kick them in the balls now (see motorcycle thread, fair offer, now not so much) get people working and it will work out in the long run. Mother f'er, people are stupid.
Wait until the neighbors complain about the amount of traffic or construction (not familiar with that area) but give it time, it will happen.

I don't know if I'd go that far...
The first obligation of any publicly traded company is (well, used to be) to maximize shareholder value. That includes taking advantage of any/all tax incentives the local yokels are willing to fork over.
Will the local economy be better off because of this development? Absolutely.
Will EBR government learn to strike better deals in the future? Doubtful.
Will a select few people benefit greatly from this? You decide.

is there a better way to improve your shareholders' positions than owning the governmental system?
I don't think we disagree, but with Amazon and the big boys, the game is way bigger than this stuff.
funny video about this kinda thing: YouTube

Paying a company 35,000 per minimum wage job created?
That is some LA math there paw paw.

We don't disagree at all, I think.
Amazon is hardly the first company to use a project like this as leverage to get anything they want.
ETA - that video is on on point

Jobs that will be around for years, and they aren’t minimum wage. And Amazon is redeveloping a blighted property and making it an employment center again.

3.5k per job per year for 10 years. if it sticks around longer could pay back some

Dealt with them on this project over two years ago; they think they know everything.
Apparently they are doing something right since they do these all over the US for Amazon.

I saw an Amazon Prime delivery truck stopped at a red light, turned his hazard lights on and then when the light turned green, just sat there blocking traffic behind him from going.
As traffic flowing in the opposite direction finally cleared , he turned off his hazards and took an illegal left turn just as as his light was turning yellow.
So he got his frickup fixed, made his illegal turn and screwed everyone behind him to wait another light cycle all because he was too lazy or stupid to proceed another 500 yards to the uturn and do driving right.
frick Amazon.

How much would you pay a PT employee to read zip codes, place package in slot or load a truck? I worked at UPS during semester break during the holiday season and its a shite job, but they offered a lot of hard working people room for advancement, better quality of life and stability. I got paid 11.50 per hr and the union took a third, it is what it is, but stories are great.

Funny the liberal companies like Amazon
Amazon is a liberal company?
Liberals constantly trash Amazon as a company that does all it can to legally lower it's tax burden. Remember all those articles a couple of years ago about how Amazon was making billions and billions of profit, and not paying a dime in US income tax?

Standard for most any decent size development these days. It's been going on in DFW for at least 30 years.
When Buc-ees asks for incentives, people on this board lost their minds.
People on this board also hold up Texas as some great model for businesses.
You know who gives away tons of incentives? Texas.

Why? The whole point is that they want these facilities in every city in order to make it cheaper to deliver goods to those metro areas.
It's not like this is a facility that is shipping product all over the country/world. It can't be anywhere. It has to be in the BR metro. There will be similar things in Shreveport, Lafayette, New Orleans, Mobile, etc.
There might need to be one in the BR area. But, they could put it in Livingston, Ascension, etc, other area parishes that would be perfectly fine with the abatement.

These are not good paying jobs, btw. Many people working at Amazon qualify for state assistance. UPS, FedEx, and the USPS all pay more.
It's very low skill labor.

Over 10 years
$3,500 per year
Meanwhile, a multiple of that will be dropped into the local economy in the form of wages.

Not sure what you are asking.
If EBR shuts down the abatement, Amazon will just put this up in a neighboring parish, and the economic benefits of the project will accrue to that parish, not to EBR.

What economic benefits? Will taxes go down? Traffic improve? Will it cause my salary to increase? My property values to increase? What's the end goal? To be more like a big city? Why live in Livingston Parish if you want to be more like the city? Just move to the frickin city.
Louisiana has been bending over backwards for industry for as long as I've been alive and it's really put us in a bind. Lower taxes across the board would make a load more sense, but whatevs. Enjoy paying Amazon to deliver chinese shite to you.
