I assume you planned for estate taxes and have an allowance set aside.

I have a sardonic friend who (since his mother's cremation) refers to her as "Dusty".

A sibling has the ashes and won't/can't let go of them.

Take your Dusty on a one-way trip to Yosemite or Nantucket or Fort Jefferson and free her (and you and the rest of your family).

ETA: Spend the money however you want to, it's now yours.

I wouldn't accept a dime. It should go to her children and grandchildren.

How can he bitch about watches/bracelets for the grandkids, but got himself a watch and a truck and is still bitching? Unless we are talking about rolexes or something, and the reason he is bitching is because you bought them 10k dollar watches and didn't put it in a 529 college savings plan.

I'm not necessarily saying it is legally, I'm saying from a point of marriage (what's mine is yours whats yours is mine). I know that many people don't view things like this.

Your hubby is being a selfish prick. He has no claim to your mother's estate.

Do as you think your mom would want. Depending on the size of the estate you may find investing in annuities or other interest earning financial products may be a better usage of the funds over trinkets and other materialistic things.

Percentage wise, how much has been spent on "stuff" (trips, material things), how much has been set aside for future needs (college tuition, include paying off legit debts like house and medical bills), and how much is left.

Good thing she was cremated, because she would be rolling in her grave.

Your mom has multiple kids and left everything to you? Sounds like she didn't like any of her other kids and didn't want them to have anything. Also, if any are under age 23 and she lived in Louisiana, they are actually entitled to a portion of her estate.

Plot twist.

She bought 20k engraved rolexes for every male grandkid and 20k dollar gold Tiffany bracelets for the girls. Husband is pissed because she didn't fund a 20k dollar 529 plan for each grandkid.
