I'll drop a :-) or :-( in there sometimes. Always with a nose. And I am not that old.

Emojis are the graphic successor of emoticons, and emoticons were invented by now-old men in the early 80s.

I couldn't imagine my grandfather sending hearts, laughing faces or crap like that to my family.

Is it hurting you? Causing you pain?

My now late father-in-law didn't have much of a clue about internet slang or lettered phrases that were short for actual words.

My wife and I got an e-mail from him one night after one of his sisters had died and he was letting us know about the funeral arrangements and when he signed off he put.

LOL Dad,

He thought it meant "Lots Of Love" and when my wife told him it meant "Laughing Out Loud" he was mortified.

I do it all the time but I’m a pretty silly , irreverent person. I can tell it bugs a couple of my bros.

Obligatory response:
"Where did they touch you, my child? Show me on the doll."
