Am I safe?

21 days ago I was on a plane with someone who tested positive for Coronavirus. His test came back positive last night. I haven’t seen or been in contact with this person or even in the same building as them for 21 days. I have no symptoms and honestly feel great.
My son (6 months old) started running a fever last night and I am sitting in the doctors office with him. I disclosed my exposure and they have absolutely lost their minds. They won’t come back in the room to even look at my son.
This is fricking ridiculous, right?

He will be fine
Take him to get some ice cream when you leave

And you haven't left yet before the government busts in to quarantine you?

My 4 year old is sick right now with a terrible cough and fever. Brought him to the dr yesterday and they didn’t bat an eye. Tested him for flu, which was negative, and said it is a cold.
We went to Disney a couple weeks ago and I got sick right when we got back but they never asked if we have recently traveled. I didn’t bring it up because I didn’t want to sound like a jackass but they never asked so I figured they weren’t concerned about it.

You did the right thing.

Also - you did the right thing. They are probably trying to decide if they should test you to determine if your son has been exposed.
Regardless of what they say or if they decide to test, you guys should both stay home from work/school and avoid nursing homes until he feels better.

You say that jokingly but that’s not far from the truth. They have called the “parish health authorities” and won’t let the doctor come in until they hear from them.

It honestly wouldn't matter if they knew that you did or didn't have Coronavirus. There's no cure. They just treat the symptoms like every old cold.

Literally no positive cases of COVID-19 reported world wide in kids or children 9 and younger.

The government has even sniffed treating this serious enough at the public level to think you’ll be quarantined. The doctors that left the room is directly related to the lack of guidance they’ve received on how to handle it.

No it would help track the numbers affected and mortality rates — keep track of those who have it and don’t die brings down the mortality %

MD Anderson yesterday estimated that 40-50% of the Houston population will get coronavirus. 1% of those people will need to go to the ICU. The reason people are freaking out is because they cant handle that many people in the ICU at once.

Statements by professionals like this is what I think is irresponsible without following it up with the fact that most wont even know they have it.

Hospitals around here are quietly preparing.
The big concern is having a rush of people with minor symptoms flooding the ER, which is already starting to happen.
