Not unstable, but certainly inconsolable. She thinks that I'm the one, and I felt the same about her for a while. She doesn't understand how I could walk away from something that she perceived to be great--and doesn't understand why I believe the family to be a deal breaker.

I think the the family goes along way. If I didn't like my wife's family I don't think we would have gotten married

That's really tough to answer actually. You may eventually find out that she has a lot of that same personality trait that you don't like in her too. If you don't like them, chances are you will end up not liking her either in the long run. Happiness is everything. Then again, she could end up being very different than them, and you may not have to deal with them that much later in life.

Are y'all part of a cult where you share a communal bed with all of her people? Is she a conjoined twin? If yes to either of these questions, you did the right thing. If the answer is no, you done f'd up. Your alternative is finding a chick who will never meet your expectations set by your ex, meaning you'll hate your life driving you to drink and be abusive and probably ending up in jail at 38 after a bath salt binge.

Disagree with most of the posters here. Definitely need to consider your relationship to her parents. They will eventually be your child's GRANDparents, and that is a pretty important role as far as I'm concerned.
