Am I legally required to pay?

So, I just moved out of my rental house and I hired a cleaning maid to come through and sweep, mop, polish, and clean the entire house for about 300$(a very thorough cleaning).
She supposedly came to "clean" the house yesterday while we were out of town. However when I met the owners at the house today, it was clear the house had not been cleaned. Dirt and debris were still on the floor. The floor had not been mopped or polished. The weird part is she DID show up that morning and we let her in before leaving, so it's not like she didn't show up.
It's clear she did not actually clean the house. Am I legally required to pay her? I know it's a silly question, but I want to make sure this doesn't mess with my credit.

I would call the company and explain that you weren't satisfied with the job she did.

I did that and gotohe answering machine. The owners are going to end up spending the next two days cleaning the house instead, so having them come out again is not an option.

take pictures, pay her what you feel was the right amount for the effort she did (based on a % of the $300) plus $25 for her being there. If she complains, explain to her, maybe there is a negotiation and a new agreed price. If she still demands the $300, tell her no and walk away.

If you were going to go back I'd have taken before and after pics to thrash this bitch with. If not, then at least before and have the realtor send you a pic of what it looked like when he/she went there.

Did you hire an individual or a service? There is a difference. A service just subs out these jobs. It's hard to find good cleaning people. My wife has fired two different people at her office because they weren't cleaning. The service just sends a different person out.
If it's a service, call the service. If an individual, pay her a little and tell her she didn't do shite.
We had the same issue when we moved into a house. These people hired cleaners and we were literally going right behind them and cleaning so we could move our furniture in.

$300 is basically chump change so I'd call the employer and see what you can work out.
