Two wrongs don't make a right.

It's illegal to travel in the leftmost lane, unless passing. Your speed has nothing to do with it.

You aren't the police and it isn't up to you to enforce traffic laws.

I was going to respond more seriously along the lines of "yes, the law is about not blocking traffic and has nothing to do with speeding".

But we're on page 5 so I'm confident this topic has been covered and am just posting to say you're a dick for blocking my progress.

You're intentionally being vague.

The spirit of the law is to have people use the left lane to pass a slower vehicle. You are to then move back to the right lane until you need to pass again.

This then keeps the left lane free and clear for other motorists to pass you. In doing so, it prevents traffic from needing to slow down behind you. When people tap their brakes, it causes a chain reaction and alters traffic patterns.

At no point does the law say is the correct time to move back to the right lane.

I miss driving in Germany. Traffic flows so much better because the Polizei will ticket the frick out of you for not staying in the right lane.

Sorry bro, that guy posted the law and your troll has come to an end

And stop thinking of the speed limit and the right lane law as non exclusive.

Yes, you should go the speed limit.
Yes, you should stay in the right hand lane.

"But if I'm going 70 in the left..."

No, you should be in the right hand lane.

"But but but if I'm going the max speed, no one should catch up"

You should be in the right hand lane.

You are just trolling. Try actually reading. The law is clear. It allows an exception for passing not planning on passing.

quote:

except as follows:
(1) When overtaking and passing another vehicle proceeding in the same direction under the rules governing such movement, including passing lanes;

and this part

quote:

(c) Upon all multilane highways any vehicle proceeding at less than the normal speed of traffic at the time and place and under the circumstances then existing, shall be driven in the right-hand lane then available for traffic except when preparing for a left turn at an intersection or into a private road or driveway, or passing or overtaking a vehicle proceeding in the same direction, if passing on the left side of it. Nothing herein contained shall be construed to authorize driving any vehicle in the left lane so as to prohibit, impede, or block passage of an overtaking vehicle in such lane and in such event the vehicle in the left lane prohibiting, impeding, or blocking passage of an overtaking vehicle shall expeditiously merge into the right lane of traffic.

So when am I supposed to get back over? What if I have another car I see a mile down the road that I know I will catch?

I've often had thoughts of becoming a cop when I retire and spend every second of my day ticketing left lane drivers.

This is such a hot button issue on here that posters are triggered so fast they don't even realize you're trolling with nothing but a shiny hook until they are gut hooked.

As the law states. Expeditiously. Again, reading. You should try it sometime.

I read it. It didn't say how many feet I should give the other vehicle. It could be 10 feet or infinity for all I know.

In drivers ed, they teach that you move over once you over take the vehicle by at least two car lengths. When passing large trucks, the full truck should be visible in your mirror.

It's really not that hard. You just feel like being a difficult.

You move over after safely passing the first car. When you catch-up to the slow moving car one mile later, you pass them and return to the right lane when safe.

Law doesn't specify that. Too much gray.
