This guy is asking about Stirling's role in the community...Id say he played the role of repeat offender.

New Video. He wasn't holding a gun
Whether he was holding the gun isn't really the issue, imo.

What altercation?
He was tackled from hands up standing position and tazed, thrown from a hood of a car onto ground, weapon drawn by cop to head, cussed out, and then shot execution style 5 times all in 48 seconds.
He didn't even know what he was being arrested for. He didn't even see his death coming.

The officers who murdered this man need to be charged with murder. Your job is to serve and protect, not hold someone down and shoot them.
Did anyone else think they held him down and shot him?

But it does show the body cams. Looks like one is one the ground at his feet and is that the other dangling from the cop that shot or is that the radio. The gun was clearly in his pocket/waist band. And they never said he was holding the gun but that he went for it.

quote:It's truly sad man. As I stated in a thread the other day, I think this board goes over board with some of the racist things that are said and I've spoken out against some of that, but how can one defend such stupidity and hypocrisy in one community? You can't.
No doubt man. So much misappropriation of rage and victimization. Their problems are within their own communities, and its completely sad that this isn't realized by so many.
It's made even worse by a president speaking out on certain situations like this that he has no business doing it because it's all one sided from him. In my life (30 years), I have never seen this country so divided by race as I have these last few years. Yes, I know it's been around, but I don't ever remember it being as bad as these last few years, in my lifetime at least.
It's easy for them to blame 2 white cops, but Alton had his fair share of blame too. I'm not saying the shooting was justified, but does anyone on here honestly think, had he cooperated, that this would have happened? But he didn't, because he was a felon in possession of a firearm, not to mention the other illegal activities he was doing. So with that in mind and his criminal history, he knew he was fricked and decided to be an a-hole about it. And I'm not saying that justifies what the cops did, but there's blame to be had on both sides.

What kind of anarchy do you think would happen if the police didn't respond in that area for 24 hours?

Exactly. Like I said earlier in this thread, the police are going to prevent him from going for the gun. They don't have to wait for the person to get the gun in their hand.

This is Gary's moment. We have no power until he surrenders it.

If a gun is clearly shown on any of the footage it will be a justified shooting wouldn't it?

nobody who is really paying attention ever claimed he was holding a gun. it was in his pocket, as stated by teh store clerk.

Not sure if it's relevant, but has there been any information on the legality of the gun in question?

The recording of the dispatcher was reported to say the same.

In the new video you can see one of the officers remove it from his right front pocket after the shooting occurs.

He was a felon, so possession of a firearm was illegal.
