Anyone here ever send their AE's off to get "recrafted?" I know i'm the only OT poor who does this instead of just buying new ones, but man i love these shoes. Just wondering they come back remotely the same.

TIA

yes. but they call it "recrafting" hence the ""

If it was just resoled, no biggie. But they basically redo the whole shoes, which is why i posed my question.

I do it regularly. No complaints at all. If you send them back and they cannot be re-crafted, they send you a new pair. This has happened three times for me over the years. I highly recommend it.

I throw them away after wearing them once.

I have a pair that I have done this with several times. They come back in much better shape. The do a lot more than put new soles. They fix any stitches that have busted, and recondition the leather, so wrinkles are lessened if not removed.

That all said if they are not American made AEs, there is no point. The Dominican shoes are not as good.

It says whether they are made in Wisconsin or imported on the product page.

Are these made in the same factories that make previously known as Cuban cigars?

Sent them to them. Said they couldn’t recraft the shoes. Took them to an actual Cobbler. Completely refinished them. Looked amazing.

Yeah, that’s a negative.

I have and they come back in great shape with new trees, polish, soles, and storage bags. It is well worth the money.

I did and the shoes came back looking brand new. On the down side, they do not fit quite the same.

Around $100 a little less than that I think.

Plus postage there?

Resoling itself, is 70 to 90, no? Sounds like a good deal.

It's like overhauling a transmission. AE replaces the heels, soles, and refinishes the upper.

HOWEVER, I would recommend sending it to Bedo's Leatherworks in Falls Church, VA. It will cost more BUT Bedo's uses JR soles. They are the gold cup of soles. Twice the density of AE soles. Last longer and more waterproof. Steve won the world cup for cobbler's in their little competition this year. He recrafted a pair of shoes for me last year. Awesome job.

Sometimes AE will use JR soles upon request. The soles are an upgrade for the shoe.

Had to restretch over the last. Needs a little breaking in.

It is a good deal. No shipping I take them to my store and my guy there does everything.

Got some danite soles and recrafted. They came back looking good. Not brand new, but definitely in way better shape.
