Here in BR, there were some that actually read the executive order and stayed open initially. Because the media was preaching stay at home and governor was implying that all "non-essential" were closed, people weren't going because they THOUGHT those stores were closed. Several ended up closing because no one was patronizing them.

But I agree with what I think was your intent - folks are definitely still patronizing businesses they know are open - Wallyworld, groceries, Lowes/HD, etc.

I was in Walmart yesterday in north Alabama and 60% or more wore masks and 30% wore gloves. I don't wear any ppe since I caught it and beat it and people look at us like we are stupid. I am foreman over a refrigeration and maintenance firm and most of our work is for McDonald's. McDonald's owners are forcing them to wear these cheap homemade masks someone cut up using black fabric with slits that cover their ears. We are forced to wear n95 masks while inside or I have write guys up.

Fyi, about McDonald's, they take food safety seriously. Even before the virus. All food that is opened like produce is wrapped with siran wrap with a date and time label. They wear regular latex gloves after proper hand washing techniques. Then if raw product like nuggets or burgers are cooked, they put on an oversized grill glove to touch raw product with then when finished it is discarded and new ones used each time something is cooked. Every hour a timer goes off and they have to throw away gloves, properly wash hands and put new gloves on.

Raw product on ond side, cooked product on the other. Every burger or nugget cooked and placed in the warming cabinet for service has a timer button that is pushed so that customers don't get served chicken that has been in a heated cabinet for an hour already. Before breakfast lunch and dinner the managed uses a temp probd to check food temps to ensure the equipment is working properly and cooking food to the right temp. They also go around checking temp on all freezers and coolers to make sure product is stored at safe temps.

On top of that their are random food safety visits by corporate that come unannounced twice per month to check on food safety. They are graded on these and a bad visit is bad news for the manager. They just don't put up with piss poor food safety procedures. We don't eat their much mainly because I been eating free meals there for years and it gets old but I can assure you that I doubt there are any other fast food joints that take food safety as serious as McDonald's.

I'm sure it has to some extent. I have reason to believe I may have gotten it in February traveling around in California for instance. My parents came to visit the last week of February, and the very next week my mom had a bad case of "bronchitis". I hope that happened at least. Give it a 50/50.

Comparing this to plane crashes is idiotic to the extreme. This virus has already killed way more people than all plane crashes combined this century.

You missed my point, which was about wearing or not wearing masks on a plane, and secondarily, from people afraid of getting on a plane to begin with because they might catch a cold. My comparison was for me personally. I have died zero times this century on a plane. I have also died zero times from corona-19. My likelihood of dying from corona-19 is statistically smaller than my likelihood of dying for any other reason this year. I still might die this year. It's not even half over.

My personal risk of catching corona, and/or spreading it, whether or not I wear a mask, is also low statistically. If it's as contagious as the media/politicians claim and we have as much "community spread" as they insist, I should have had it already, especially given that my daily travel habits have not changed, in which case I most likely don't currently have it, and I can't give it to anyone. If it isn't as contagious as claimed, then my not wearing a mask will not unknowingly spread it.

Up until a couple of weeks ago, hardly anyone was wearing a mask in the grocery stores in Lafayette, including workers. Around two weeks back I noticed WAY more people wearing masks. I don't know why the sudden increased use of masks occurred. Maybe people are actually seeing people they know getting sick and decided it was a good idea?

This is true a funny.... why even wear the thing.....
