I'd be all for it if drug overdoses and other drug abuse medical conditions were exempt from EMTALA or any other taxpayer-funded emergency medical services. You want personal responsibility when it comes to drugs? You fricking got it buddy. Just try to OD in an out of the way corner.

I honestly feel sorry for some of y’all. Do you not have a shred of empathy? Or are you always this mad at the world?

i have tons of empathy for people in their situations. i'm a giant sucker for giving people money even if they're going to use it for their next fix. i'd rather be gullible than stingy.

but using tax payer money to subsidize destructive behavior just doesn't sit well with people.

case in point was when people were saying Mike Pence helped to cause the rise in AIDS in Indiana when he refused to subsidize giving clean needles to crack users. it's just a counterintuitive idea to spend tax payer money on people who are continuing to make self-destructive decisions. this board is probably more harsh than reality, albeit.

I love the good ol "you aren't a good person unless you like throwing tax dollars down the drain" argument.

Sometimes, tough decisions have to be made. This country and most states constantly run in a deficit. Helping people who refuse to help themselves is not a wise choice for every person who chooses to avoid drugs that can ruin their lives.

Not wanting to divert otherwise more useful tax money to addicts does not make one a "bad person". We have much bigger financial issues that need much more attention than people who choose to ruin their own lives.

Dennis Miller said it best: "I want to help the helpless, not the clueless."

Meaning let's help those who need help the most. Not those who are purposely destructive.
