Did Alexander Hamilton own slaves? Do we need to cancel the Hamilton musical?

Covid took care of that one.

I’ve heard rumors from some of my lower level employees that a $10 bill exists

It's time to get rid of the Washington and Jefferson Monuments

He did not but his wife’s family did and he allegedly helped them with the buying and selling of a few.

Like all the other guys, a product of his time, he was modestly against slavery and probably considered pretty open to other races compared to most of his peers.

He was not an extreme unforgiving abolitionist like the play suggests

Hamilton was born a bastard and thus could not inherit anything left him in a will, including slaves. Upon moving to New York, he still didn't own slaves as a young adult.

Hamilton was an a-hole, a proponent for a strong central government, a monarchist, and it's a shame he didn't die as an infant, but he didn't own any slaves.

Hamilton's involvement in the selling of slaves suggests that his position against slavery was not absolute. Besides marrying into a slaveholding family, Hamilton conducted transactions for the purchase and transfer of slaves on behalf of his in-laws and as part of his assignment in the Continental Army.
