Yep, he basically sabotaged his own defense at every step of the way and went down in flames, but people here think he’s being railroaded

There is no point in defending a politically motivated case

They could have really made headlines and just say he owes 20 trillion dollars

That would have made a statement

What cause of action was it he was sued for? Never heard. Defamation is all I can think, but idk what he said that would've caused them economic damage that wasn't true i.e. just his opinion. Intentional infliction of motional distress? I don't remember the elements of that tort.

They stuck him on Connecticut's Unfair Trade Practices Act which has no limit on punitive.

Judge should have sentenced him to be their butler.

These were just compensatory damages. The judge still has to decide punitive damages.

What I can't figure out is why don't the regular news media get similar treatment? They clearly lied about "Muh Russians". They clearly lied about numerous things around COVID. Negatively affected the operation of our government, and millions of innocent people. Yet... no consequences. At all.

Sue them and prove your case or hope they don’t defend themselves and you get a default judgement.

I don't think Alex Jones the person is defendable.

It's the attack on speech that's troubling. Even if it's reprehensible. SCOTUS has ruled in the past that even lies are protected speech. The struck down the stolen valor act along those lines.

They are on the "special" tier of the judicial system.

If we're going to go down the road that only "truthful" speech is allowed... whoever gets to determine what is "truthful" will have far too much power.

There were some things that seemed fishy, but he got way ahead of himself declaring it a hoax before doing a lot more investigative journalism.

Seems like a Geraldo vault situation with higher human stakes.

To be clear, he had multiple opportunities to defend himself on free speech and multiple other grounds. He was more interested in trying to hide info andI playing the martyr than he was in making that case. Ultimately he forfeited his ability to make those defenses.

I wonder how much he regrets that right now.

Probably just fine

Now that the circus is over they can actually get down to whether anything here follows the laws on compensatory damages and will cap the punitive.

In a few years from now we will see some byline of this nonsense being tossed right out.

The way our government and big tech go out of their way to take down Alex Jones has to make you wonder why they’re so afraid of what he’s saying.

You mean these "sayings" from Alex Jones that he despicably took pleasure in promoting for his personal economic benefit?

A small sample for your reading pleasure:

“It’s as phony as a $3 bill.”

“I watched the footage, and it looks like a drill.”

"Why do governments stage these things — to get our guns! Why can’t people get that through their head?”

Congratulations on your endorsement of blatant flat out lying in order to profit from the horrific mass murder of six and seven year old children, innocent in every decent sense of the word.
