They also appear to have retail-zoned plots on O'Neal Lane near S. Harrel's Ferry and in Central along Sullivan. Kind of surprised EBR is not objecting to another store that will generate more traffic right there.

Aldi has purchased a 1.7 acre tract near the intersection of Siegen Lane and North Rieger Road for nearly $1.9 million.

The fast growing grocery chain bought the land in a deal that was filed Friday with the East Baton Rouge Clerk of Court’s office. The seller was Gulf Coast Commercial Group, the Houston real estate company that owns the Siegen Village Shopping Center.

Aldi filed plans in March to build a nearly 20,500-square-foot freestanding store in front of Total Wine. The chain had run ads on its website for a store manager trainee at the location

In May 2020, the company bought an 11.1-acre site at 2327 O'Neal Lane, and in January 2021, it bought 3.5 acres in the Settlement at Shoe Creek traditional neighborhood development in Central.

Last summer, it posted advertisements online for trainee managers for stores at those Baton Rouge-area stores. But in February, officials with the chain said there was no information to share when the O'Neal or Central stores would open.

They'll all do very well, but the Central and O'Neal locations are going to be way easier for shoppers.

The traffic and visibility are probably contributing factors to their decision to open up on there.

That’s going to be a tight squeeze once you factor in parking

EBR doesn't reject a goddamn thing. They give zero fricks about central planning or how any new projects will affect traffic, flooding, property values, etc. It's just a giant rubber stamp at that office.

Margins are pretty thin. It's a volume game, which means they absolutely must have the right location. Which usually means spending some big bucks, especially if it's a huge store like Target or Wal Mart.

Does EBR object to anything?

There's a massive, ridiculous apartment complex being built behind the Wal Mart on Burbank. Right in front of nice neighborhoods & on a flood plain.

Traffic is going to be massively fricked, that area is definitely going to see legit flooding, and that neighborhood is going to see a massive spike in crime after the usual Section 8 lowlifes inevitably take over that complex.

Yep. I live in the area, and am already considering moving while my property value is still high.

This statement shows you have zero idea of what it takes to get a project approved in this Parish. NIMBYism on full display.
