Not necessarily, sometimes you realize you need to end some relationships in sobreity. I didn't choice to save every relationship. That was very very hard.

I have no relationships from that period that survived, except family. We just arent the same people anymore.

I 've seen many spouses hang in there for years, hoping their SO would sober up, only to lose them when they did sober up.

The hardest part for me when I quit drinking cold turkey…

I was a cold beer drinker

I found a drink called “Bubbly” I think it’s made by either Coke or Pepsi.

So whenever I was around drinking events such as the pool, beach, fishing, boating, tailgating, etc etc etc

I just cracked open a cold bubbly and it felt like a cold beer in my hand, it tingled the throat like a cold beer.. and it sounded like I was cracking open a cold beer

Over time, I just started liking a cold bubbly 1000000 times more than a cold beer - wake up and not be dehydrated with zero hangover

I’d like to say it was the MAIN thing that got me through it

Good luck!

When I got to the point that eating a piece of sandwich meat by itself hurt my throat and esophagus. Then I was done. Best decision I've ever made. Life is good again.

Club soda did it for me.

I kept feeling the need to apologize for things I'd said or how I acted when I was drinking. Apologies don't mean shite if you keep up the behavior you're apologizing for up. Also kept telling myself I was going to quit and every morning I'd wake up hungover and have to live with losing another fight with it. Cracked the daily drinking habit like that. No longer keep liquor in the house and don't drink more than 2 or 3 beers on a Friday or Saturday.

I was drinking about 1.5 5ths and a case a week before. Had to just quit it completely for about 4 or 5 months to get it under control.

I was very very lucky I didn’t lose my wife with all the stupid crap I did. I guess the faith she had in me knew that underneath all that beer was a good man.

Yea!! Kind of the same thing. I Always get a club soda at social events that don’t have bubbly available.

It’s also fun to sit back and watch drunk people at social events when you are sober lol

No doubt. Close to two fifths a day tends to do that. I'll have a year of sobriety September 1st. Besides being close with family again, having a clear mind and conscience is the best thing sobriety has given me. I feel like myself again. I still have problems sleeping, but I've dealt with that since childhood.

I listened to the interview you did with SFP a few months back, you're a good guy peej. Behind every good man is a great woman is what they tell me.

So many threads. I think we need an Alcohol board.

I, too, could probably benefit from it.

Not one event, but when I admitted to myself that anything in my life that continually makes it more difficult without any reward...

It only took 30 years. For many many different things, I only believe myself I guess and Myself requires touching the flame before acknowledging its fire.

Yeah

Covid lockdowns did a number on people including myself. I haven’t hit rock bottom yet but I don’t drink and drive so the only person I’m hurting is myself

Nobody to blame but me, but lockdowns and WFH policies have absolutely contributed to my problem.

You could call it a "man emotion" board. Women explode, socially berate, etc., and we got nothing. Except booze to deal with things we can't fix. And lawyers.
