Albemarle's president says Charlotte was the best strategic location for the company because of its larger city feel.

"Located approximately 35 miles from our state-of-the-art lithium facility in Kings Mountain, metropolitan Charlotte provides easy and fast connectivity with customers and colleagues, fostering a collaborative environment and culture for our team," Luke Kissam, Albemarle's president and chief executive officer. "We look forward to expanding our presence in North Carolina becoming an even more significant partner in the communities where we live and operate."

Damn that sucks.

My grandpa moved to br from los Angeles to work for Ethyl in 1965.

Funny thing, he was on a committee to build a south loop around br, and had a quote in the advocate saying "ill be dead before they build a loop"

Rip papa

<------ he was a wisconsin grad

As someone who grew up in south Louisiana, has 2 degrees from LSU and now lives in Charlotte... I can say with quite a degree of certainty that CLT > BTR

And its really not that close.

My understanding is that the production facility will stay.

That's a questionable move considering American Airlines is going to bone Charlotte Douglas.

It'll still be a more active airport than BTR...just find it strange that they didn't make this move 7 years ago.

I used to stay in Charlotte from 96 to 99. My family and I moved from BR to CHA back to BR and I can honestly say Charlotte is 20 years ahead of BR when it comes to transportation, roads, schools, and cost of living. That's why my older siblings decided to stay.

We do have an advantage over them as far as the job market and economy though.

I'm not saying it's questionable to leave BR for somewhere bigger. But they bought Charlotte stock high when it's likely to come down.

They have the loop down, but are they going to ever widen I-77 and I-85 north of town?

This is the 3rd major publicly traded company to leave Baton Rouge. Shaw was acquired, Amedisys moved to Nashville, and now Albemarle to Charlotte. 2 of the top 10 public companies in Louisiana move HQs in a matter of months.

Only 2 public companies left in the Baton Rouge area now Lamar and H&E Equipment Services.

I also anticipate that Tidewater will officially make it official that they are relocating to Houston due to the O&G slowdown to save costs as well.

Took a year off, and just got back on the road in July with my old firm. Going from Delta Diamond to starting from scratch with AA/USair. About to do a status challenge to at least get to Platinum asap.
