Not at all. The Stampede trail is a lot safer than most parts of Alaska. These idiots will just die elsewhere on another trail. shite, company I used to work for did jeep and ATV tours there.

This movie is a true story. I'm commenting on the real guy, not the movie. In real life, he was a dumbass who, in my opinion, was searching for death, not truth. Whatever theme the film was trying to communicate is irrelevant.

Construction company bought it, it had a mechanical breakdown where it is. Some of the stampede trail is a paved and gravel road. It's far from remote. Just outside of Healy.

It's romanticized because he wasn't like some outdoorsman who fricked up. He was somebody that was trying to shed all the trappings of modern society. His effective suicide was more respectable than most other suicides.

Except he didn't intend to commit suicide. He died because he underestimated the Alaskan bush and overestimated his natural survival skills. He wouldn't have died if he had made even a half arse effort to prepare himself for living off the land. That's just poor decision making.
No skills at preserving meat, no map or understanding of the area and worst of all overlooking the simple fact that the river is going to swell in the spring.

Didn’t they have two buses that were used by the folks building the road as quarters.? They pulled one out and left one. Hunters started camping in them then.
I think I read they pulled them around with D 6 Caterpillars.
