Saban owns parts of two dealerships in Birmingham. And another in Nashville.
And the Mercedes North America plant is headquartered in Tuscaloosa. He's worked closely with them on some models.

Probably harkens back to the time when Daimler-Benz owned Chrysler - the loaded S-Class for his little royal highness, and the Dodge products are good enough for the troops.

He's got into the game late in life, he didn't have the experience to keep this all under wraps.
Also, this is Alabama politics, it's so small time and petty only a few politicians can rise up above the fray. Bentley had a good shot at that and threw it away for some strange.
On the other hand, maybe Bentley was just getting ready for his shot at the national level of new Republican politics:

So what if he had an affair? His job is to be a governor not a faithful husband. Bill Clinton and JFk were good presidents imo and both cheated on their wives all the time.

He created a government job for her husband (a former TV weatherman). Oh, and that guy continued to run his own business as well on government time.
He used other government resources and campaign funds to have the affair.
It got to the point where many considered Rebekkah to be the governor herself....and when it started getting around too much it compromised his authority.
Oh, and after ole Lyin' Jeff got confirmed as US AG Bentley appointed Lyin' Luther Strange to take over as US Senator so that he would no longer be investigating Bentley, and the new Alabama AG would be appointed by.....Bentley!
Former speaker of the house mike Hubbard was convicted on multiple counts (and probably just the tip of the ice berg)...he led the "storming of the state house" by his crooked cronies.
And then you have Roy Moore.....suspended Chief Justice of the court.
Politics in Alabama stink to high heaven. Working class whites are fooled by brand names and corrupt preachers into voting against their self interest and putting these folks in power.
The Democratic Party is under the thumb of Joe Reed who has his grubby hands on the teachers money. As long as Joe gets a number of black legislators elected to handle their crooked business, then he doesn't care what the white crooks are doing.
POS folks like Bracy and Fugures will show up to protest and "mourn" when a criminal in a stolen car with a gun in his waistband gets shot by a cop....parading all over TV
But they don't give a dam when a week later an elderly black man is beaten and killed by four "teens" who want to rob him.
Sorry for the rant....I could go on for days about how f'd up It all is....

Hey, stupid. When you're firing other state officials because they have dirt on you, it's no longer a "so what" situation. Bill Clinton was a shitty president because he spent at least half his eight years concentrating on how to avoid impeachment and dodging half a dozen sex scandals. JFK was ok but vastly overrated.
