Police officers in Alabama will soon be allowed to tint the windows on their personal vehicles darker than is allowed for anyone else in the state.

Gov. Kay Ivey this week signed HB332, legislation that makes an exemption in the Alabama window-tinting law for current and retired federal, state and local law enforcement. The change takes effect in August.

Rep. Connie Rowe, R-Jasper, a former police chief, sponsored the legislation. She said the purpose is to help protect the privacy of current and former law enforcement officers and their families. She said allowing them to have darker window tint could make them less identifiable or recognizable while off duty to people they have encountered in dangerous or tense cases on the job.

Fine. Should probably do prosecutors and judges as well.

The Bootlickers will be along shortly to tell us how this is absolutely the right thing to do.

Couldn't you just look for the vehicle with the blacked out windows?

By making their vehicles identifiable as belonging to a police officer.

I understand the concern and don’t have a problem with it.

I mean if you want illegal tiny just get it. I don’t know many people that want it but are too afraid to get it over the legality.

So I guess these people never get out of their car? What a stupid “reason” to allow this. What about their safety when they exit the car to go the grocery, movie, etc??

looking for a place now to get my inspection sticker that will pass my tint. Last couple times I had to rip it off and put it back after I get the sticker.

Exactly...they might as well have a sticker on the car that says “Retired LEO inside”. It’s comical.

That isn’t gonna change anything.

I have blacked out windows and don’t care.

This is south Louisiana. It’s hot as frick in the summer and my tint makes a huge huge difference in keeping the heat out

Have you seen the SUV's they ride around in? Even the lowly Louisiana reps have tahoes with windows so dark they might as well be painted. All paid for by the taxpayer, who can't do that to their own vehicles.
