Rep. Connie Rowe, R-Jasper, a former police chief, sponsored the legislation. She said the purpose is to help protect the privacy of current and former law enforcement officers and their families. She said allowing them to have darker window tint could make them less identifiable or recognizable while off duty to people they have encountered in dangerous or tense cases on the job.

I get it, and it may even come from a good place...but this notion that we have certain rules for those with power and certain rules for those without has to come to an end. This does nothing but separate people based on power again.

Hide their identity?

If people wanna screw with LE in their personal vehicles, then the super dark tint will identify them immediately as LE.

Hell, they’ve got these things called license plates that are unique and identify specific cars.

Do they intend to legalize opaque license plate covers but only for current/retired police officers and their families?

Exactly...they might as well have a sticker on the car that says “Retired LEO inside”. It’s comical.

Or that stupid punisher police decal.

I’ve been in Alabama for a couple years with dark tint on my front windows. I think I have 15% and not been pulled over yet and they didn’t say a thing during the inspection

What inspection?
