Alabama gas prices could rise 5 to 15 cents from the explosion

If it is a pipeline that supplies the East coast, then why would Alabama have shortages or gas prices go up?

They probably shut down the pipeline at Meridian, MS during the repairs. Everything east of MS will be affected.

Because Colonial also has breakout tankage that supplies lateral lines in the South. You can't even begin to imagine how important this pipeline is to our country's energy sector.

Here in western NC several stations already out of gas. Short gas lines at other stations. I filled up yesterday - the guy across from me was filling 5 jerry cans.

You must have some really good connections. Neither Colonial, nor any of the state petroleum councils in affected states (potentially most of the SE, up to DC or beyond) know this as of the various calls I was on late yesterday.
