If LA did this, Mitch Landrieu would tear down the CCC, the Causeway, half the CBD, and City Park.

Funny how in this day and age, asking people to work for themselves is considered wrong

Good..: let them pick up trash on the highway or do something productive. Those that are able and on the dole aren't too good to do something to give back to the society that is giving to them

Our freaking govment gives out contracts to have the grass cut on interstate.....instead of owning equipment and giving jobs to able men.

shite like that makes blood boil. There are so many "fixes like that in every state.

That is kind of a shame since they are probably the ones that really need food stamps when the only job is Walmart down the interstate

If this catches on, keep an eye on your Wal-Mart stock.

Walmart takes in about 18 percent of all food stamp spending in the U.S., giving it more than $13 billion in revenue, or about 4 percent of Walmart’s total U.S. sales.

Whoever decided to take away that stipulation in the first place should be lighted on fire.

Because it saves money to do it that way Duh!!!, and the contract holders have to hire people just like the Gov would and pay their insurance as well as maintain equipment. You really should think before you post crap like this.

I don't understand why we give away assistance to anyone who can't prove their disability inhibits them from working.

I'm not sure what effect it would have.

If a person gets $100 in food stamps and shops at Walmart....will that SAME person shop elsewhere with $100 he/she earned from employment?

I don't think so. The "category" of the revenue (Walmart's) might change. But, the Total Revenue likely will not.

This isn't going to fix the massive problem in the country of people claiming a disability then sitting on their asses the rest of their life collecting a check.

Our governor here in Ark. basically did the same with the expanded Medicaid program. To get those benefits you have to have a job if you're physically able to work. He kicked about 65,000 off of the program a couple of weeks ago until they abide by the new rule.

Only because the government doesn't know how to run an efficient operation. It is easier though. If it saved money automatically, there'd be no profit margin for the private contractor. You are correct if we are talking about each small parish having to own its own equipment vs some large contractor; but if the state put it's resources behind such a program, the state would quickly out size any competing contractor.
