He really didn't.
Cop fricked up. Should have had his badge and gun taken away permanently at a minimum.

Main thing I don't get is why would that cop be on such high alert. It was a traffic accident that was called in by the included parties. The people were waiting there for the cops.
A legit threat wouldn't wait around for the cops to come write him a ticket.

Always behave as if the cop is a low wage walmart worker. Because that is what the majority of them are. Some are good dudes obviously, but most are eggheads (with guns). Understand the situation and treat it as such.
I agree, but even a low wage WalMart worker would know better in this case.

Deductive reasoning and having functioning eye balls would say yes.
So he knew the guy had a wallet in his hand and still shot him? You believe that the police officer intended to shoot the man that day for no reason? Did have some animus towards the man or was he just in the mood to shoot someone?
Or do you think it's possible that he wasn't well-trained and was under stress and reacted off poor instincts?

Is it unreasonable to assume that the cop who shot this fellow had dealt with criminals throughout the day
No matter how many times you say this, it's still irrelevant.

you honestly think that cop was just looking for someone to shoot?
Does it matter what the motive is? It was justified regardless.
Let's assume for a second he wanted to shoot this kid. Would that have swayed the court to rule differently?
Probably not.
With that said I would guess this guy is just jumpy with an itchy trigger finger. The truly tragic part of this is he probably got a paid vacation and possibly a commendation for successfully performing a "justified" shoot.

So he didn't even pull the guy over. He was responding to an accident?

I think the better question is why did he have a gun and badge to begin with? As I said earlier the really sad part is he'll probably do this again, next time knowing the courts say it's ok.

He didn't do anything illegal. But I think he would have been better served not jumping out of his vehicle with a wallet in his hand in the middle of night.
Again, this is more of a lesson to people that cops have guns and are sometimes guilty of poor decision-making.

I don't believe jumping out of a car is a reason to get shot. I think he gave someone poorly trained what they believe is a reason to shoot.

I'm not a poorly trained cop so I don't know how that's relevant.
