Do you think the cop knew it was a wallet? Answer that question.

If he honestly thought it was anything other than a wallet, he's an idiot. he was responding to a minor car accident. What type of cop killer has a fender bender, calls cops, waits around on cops, and then pulls a gun to shoot the cops once they arrive?

Just because he thought it might be a gun doesn't absolve him of his idiocy. When the cops show up to a scene of an accident, you get out of your car with your wallet or whatever it is you keep your insurance info in.

Again, this is more of a lesson to people that cops have guns and are sometimes recklessly irresponsible and should be immediately terminated from their job.

I think the better question is why did he have a gun and badge to begin with?

Looks like he's an idiot. So let's move forward with that assumption.

You have to wonder if shoots like this will eventually justify people defending themselves against police.

Most of us would be better served staying off the roads after midnight. Doesn't mean someone should be blamed for being hit by a drunk driver at 2 am.

The driver's actions would certainly be more questionable had this been a traffic stop (but still should not have resulted in him being shot). The fact that this cop was just responding to an accident called in by the driver is freightening and he felt that threatened is freightening.

I said this on the first page. And it still applies:
quote:

Dumb cops will exist no matter what I think.

Would you rather deal with them in the most logical way possible, by not giving them a reason to shoot you, or would you rather get shot by dumb cops?

I'd rather deal with dumb cops by not getting shot. But that's just me.

And that he was legally justified in doing so.

Most of us would be better served when dealing with police to assume they aren't well trained and have guns.

He didn't give him any reason; that's what you're clearly/amazingly missing here. Your drivers license is located in your wallet. The cops show up to a scene of a car accident, and will need to see your drivers license. This requires one to pull out their wallet. Some wallets are black.

So don't buy black wallets, or have a fender bender at night, because the cops may shoot you. Noted, thanks mane.

And it's only going to get worse. Who do you know who "wants" be a police officer?

That's right, no one. We have demonized this profession to no end and now we are going to get the worst at this position.

He was waiting for the cop to arrive bc he and the driver of the 18wheel were in an accident. Who wouldn't get out of their car?

The actions of the cop aren't consistent with your statement.

Unless you truly believe the officer just intended to shoot someone that day. Is that what you believe? The officer was just in the mood to shoot someone?

I agree with that statement but in the context of this situation it really doesn't apply. The driver did absolutely nothing wrong and the cop was reckless.

There a couple of things I still want to know. Why was the cop already out of his vehicle when this driver exited his? Cops are supposed to instruct the driver as to what to do (exit, stay in your vehicle, etc.) prior to leaving his patrol car - especially at night. I would love to see the protocol for this situation prescribed by the Alabama State Police.

So you're saying to get out of your vehicle holding your wallet after a car accident once the cops arrive is handling the situation illogically? you're reaching. It's fine to backtrack after an initial post once you learn more about the situation. Nado did it.

I think you can do all those things. Though I would recommend not jumping out of your car with the black wallet in the middle of the night after getting into a fender bender.

I didn't say it was illogical. I believe the most logical way possible would be for him to either not exit the vehicle, or to wait for the officer to walk up to the vehicle. Do you agree?
