Interested in what you guys think about this...

90% of the flying I do is work related and a business expense. The times I fly for personal/vacation, I normally just get family to drop me off at the airport.

Why? Because dropping $100 on parking for 7-10 days is ridiculous.

However, my buddy tonight told me he hasn't paid for parking in years.

He parks at a nearby hotel, jumps on the free shuttle and leaves his car at the hotel.

Who has tried this method?

Upvote for genius. Downvote for dumb Alabama redneck idea.

Most airport hotels give you a tag to show you are supposed to be there.

Guess you can always chance a few hundred dollar tow and storage fee.

Great idea until you come back to your vehicle sitting on cinder blocks with the rims gone. Or towed to an impound lot cause the hotel manager notices it's been sitting there for a week and doesn't belong to a guest.

Genius until your car gets towed. Likelihood is low but could still happen I suppose.

If parking is less than an Uber, I park.

If parking is more than an Uber, I Uber.

I've stayed at 100s of hotels next to airports and have never had anything like that.

Probably depends on how busy the hotel is and how long you'll be gone

I was flying to Afghanistan in on a kind of last minute thing and had not arranged a place to keep my car. My car wasn't that great so I parked it at a Wal-Mart in atlanta. 6 months later I fly back and my car was sitting right where I had left it.

In Chicago and St Louis the entrance gate is a good distance from the exit station. I have always wondered if you can just walk up to the entrance gate and punch a new ticket to use. I am sure technology would prevent this somehow but I have wondered.

Yeah, I'd expect there to be a sensor like the ones in the road at some red lights that can tell if there's a car or motorcycle above it. It would keep it from printing a ticket unless there's a car about to go into the lot.

I did this for a few years in New Orleans when I lived in BR at the radisson that had free parking and free shuttle, this was about 10 years ago though. Probably wouldn’t try it now unless it was a small town
