July 2, 2019 at 6:55 AM CDT - Updated July 2 at 6:58 AM MOODY AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. (AP) — The Air Force says it's investigating after a fighter jet struck a bird and dropped three dummy bombs used for training over northern Florida. Moody Air Force Base in central Georgia said in a news release there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage after the 25-pound (11-kilogram), nonexplosive training munitions were dropped Monday afternoon by an A-10C Thunderbolt II jet. The base said a "bird strike" had caused "an inadvertent release" of the three dummy bombs. The Air Force said it didn't know where the training bombs landed, but the suspected area was about 54 miles (87 kilometers) south of the base near Suwannee Springs in northern Florida. The Air Force said the dummy bombs, though inert, contain small pyrotechnic charges and should not be handled.

Sounds like our government is being proactive to combat the "Florida" problem

Fake news and just trying to get rid of the A10 and justify the billions spent on F35.

Yes, the A-10 is considered a fighter since we are treaty (either SALT or START, can't remember which) limited from having "attack" aircraft. The "A" was grandfathered in because the treaty was signed after the aircraft was already in production. It is why the F-117 had the F designation instead of an A. Also, for what it is worth A-10 pilots hold the 11F Air Force Specialty Code which equates to Fighter Pilot.

Dummy bombs were just BDU-33s, nothing to see here.

are the birds ok?
Most certainly not. I have seen this done when I did a stint in the Iowa National Guard. We had a flight of f-16s leave DSM for a training run over Wisconsin - usually about a 5 or so hour mission. We (ordinance) got a radio call they were inbound like 90 minutes after take off. We drive down to the end of the runway to secure the aircraft and when I went under the pod of the lead bird found blood and guts all over the munition pod.
He hit a large bird just right which dislodged his munition somewhere over western Wisconsin. We never got a call and based on the grainy assed footage from the wingman's camera could never tell for sure where he dropped it.
shite happens.

Now come on alpha dog, you know as well as I do that SAC has all the "bombers" thus making anything else a fighter/attack aircraft in TAC (or whatever iteration the USAF is using these days)
