It seems like this might be able to be used to record dreams. Crazy.

I usually scoff at the nerd AI taking over the world threads but this is actually quite disturbing.

AI is your friend. There is nothing to fear from AI. AI will help every human reach his maximum potential. Embrace AI.

Nothing I focus on in public would get me thrown in jail. But it may land me in divorce court.

I think this would be so fascinating.

I also wonder what kinds of implications the refinement of this method will have on things like the criminal justice system and on the study of mental illnesses, i.e. schizophrenia, addiction, bipolar disorder, etc.

So basically we're spewing our thoughts into the air unencrypted for anyone with the right equipment to see like over the air Television.

Reconstructing an image of what someone is looking at and retrieving images of previous visions are two entirely different animals. I agree it's a leap in technology but the later will likely take a leap across the Grand Canyon to achieve.

This is actually terrifying.

I've visited the little known yet one of the biggest "nonprofits" in the world, the Howard Hughes Institute. This was the big program they were beginning when they moved to a new, equally hidden facility, a massive complex dug into the banks of the Potomac that you can't see from the highway where its address is.

This technology is our bleak future.

This is a good point, but I bet that it won't take long to make that second leap from reading image recognition to reading original thoughts (at least original visualizations). I wonder what the difference would be in terms of imaging a thought that had no visual counterpart, like internal logic or hearing a song in your head, vs. someone visualizing a tree or a beach while closing their eyes.

I'm torn between being in awe of cool science and fearful of the potential societal repercussions.

a family member who is in the tech industry was telling us about this a few months ago. he said that they show you an object, and read your brain activity. when they have done it enough times, the computer learns how your brain reacts and can interpolate you brain activity to an image.

in 50 years a deposition will consist of plugging your brain into a computer and downloading what you know.

these days, your wife has to smell your dick after you are "working late." in a few years, she'll plant an iphone in your pillow and get details of your evening.

I'd be afraid if I was hooked up to one of those things trying to paint a picture of something, my brain would frick me over and only think about nekkid chicks or something and screw things up

I’d say odds favor that having images of nekkid chicks in our brain will become so normal, they’ll set these devices to filter out that kind of insignificant clutter, or draw attention to the psychos that don’t think about nekkid chicks.

No worries. You’re normal.

If you haven’t started living a life you’re not afraid to have revealed, it’s time.

I wonder what will become more mainstream first...a more refined version of this, or a version of the little lens camera/implanted memory chip combo from that Black Mirror episode "The Entire History of You".
