After you drop off applications

Do you call businesses after you drop off applications and resumes? What do you ask and how soon? I have not had to do this is 15 years or so. Thanks. This job looking stuff sucks. On to bigger better things, right. Thanks.

Nobody drops off applications anymore, it's all online now. Check out indeed.com

I haven't done it myself in over 20 years, but as someone in a position to hire, the applicants that follow up on their resume/application generally stay towards the top of the pile.

what do you have experience in?

Applying for jobs is a huge pain in the arse. I've been doing it all day. You can't just send a résumé, you have to fill out everything that's on your résumé onto each company's website as well as attach it. I haven't had to do this in 10 years
Good luck to you

As long as you're not excessively aggressive I can't see it hurting your chances.
In my field, law/government, it doesn't help you and there isn't much point in it, but still, don't think it would hurt.
In other fields, I think it is more common and may be seen as interest on your part.
The few times I've been in a spot to do this was after there was interest shown (couple of interviews, interview followed up by request for some document, etc.), and I usually just sent an email asking if there was anything further I could provide. But as noted above, I didn't get those jobs because they'd have hired me if they wanted to do so.

Yes, definitely. Call and say that you dropped off your application/resume last (insert day of week here) and am calling to follow up. I think a follow up phone call is a must in this climate.

Applying through monster and indeed is ok but keep in mind the employer will get hundreds of resumes.

It's idiotic. That's what happens when the people who think they'll catch deceitful employees with questions like "what would you do if 20 dollars fell out of John's pocket" also setup the application protocols.

At least you have an application. I get people that come into this office all the time and ask "Are you hiring?"
Me - "Do you have an application?"
Them - "No."
Me - "No, we're not hiring."

For any professional position I would follow up

For the last five years I have been assembling and hydro testing oilfield vessels of different sizes and forklift/man-lift operations. And before that shipping and receiving/pulling parts for shop personal and customers for Exterran Energy Solutions.

Agree with the pain in the arse sentiment. What the hell is the point of having a resume, if they make you put all the exact same information on an application anyway?

Burger King vehemently disagrees!

Well that is a professional sounding answer
So mechanical/maintanance work? Have you been applying outside oil companies?

I've heard calling or sending a thank you letter for considering you gets you major bonus points with an employer. Guess it depends on the job and the field you're in.

Lookup Granite Services International. I think I saw receiving positions availalable.
