While one could argue there are better ways to spend their money (adoption and then donate rest to an animal shelter for example), it is their money to do as they wish with it.

It would be really funny if the cloning worked, and they were actually able to have a puppy from his DNA. And then on the way to pick up the puppy they both were killed in a car accident.
