It’s not dissimilar from some western philosophies. Plan for the future and learn from the past, but don’t dwell on either. The present is what really matters.

Just watched it.

Will never get that time back.

However, per the theory, my wasted time now exists forever yet I never left the present.

Waste of time and no such thing at the same time. Wonder if happy hour can exist?

My watch hurts.

If it’s a philosophy at all, it’s a philosophy that was created to explain why Africans behave as if they don’t understand the concept of the future and delayed gratification. Teens in St Louis aren’t gunning each other down because they’ve decided to live in the present like a monk.

Those teens in St. Louis aren’t Africans, they are Americans with African descent. I was more speaking to the fact that countries in subsaharan Africa very largely do not practice any form of preventative maintenance on infrastructure, city planning, or long term economic planning. It seems like the subsaharan ethos is “Does it benefit me or my immediate family today or tomorrow?” If the answer is no, the action isn’t taken.

It’s exceptionally different from damn near ALL western philosophies.

We domesticated dogs over 10,000 years ago, they still like to be in packs like wolves, exhibit submissive behaviors to the Alpha. We were bringing Africans under 200 years ago. Nothing has changed since the first boat came over.

Instinctual behavior is vastly different than elevated philosophy regarding the idea of time and spacial dimensions.

Isnt acting on the present only instinctual behavior that doesnt acknowledge these dimensions? Isnt that the problem.

Yes they are, for the purposes of this discussion.

You are talking as if you think the sub-Saharan African is making a conscious choice to live in the moment and for his own immediate benefit. It’s not a conscious decision. It’s not the result of a laissez faire philosophy. It’s just a lower level behavior, and it’s not limited to SSA.

They must be doing something right. African "civilization" has existed for more than 8,000 years. Do you think at the rate we're going we'll exist for 8,000 years?

It's interesting to note the difference in definitions of "progress."

NOW we are having an interesting discussion.

Here’s the deal, though, we don’t have to figure out whether the forward thinkers’ civilization is better than the non-forward thinkers’ civilization.
We just have to stop pretending there isn’t a difference in the people who produce those civilizations.

Africans eat all the eggs before they are chickens, or eat all the chickens because they don’t see the need for eggs. So eventually they need food brought in on trucks.

Or throw waste into a well because they aren’t thirsty yet.

The follow up studies on what happens with bringing water wells to some of those villages is enough to drive a westerner to indifference.

This is why Africa has offered nothing to society, as far as advances from great minds. They use products that other civilizations have invented.

Some AA's are now claiming all technology, inventions and advances came from AA's. These are the same people saying "Crime stats is racist, yo".

Future doesn’t exist.

Only the past.

They live like primatives.

Makes sense.

This is retarded.

Since integration, Black Americans have had numerous success stories. Even with its pitfalls, integration has been a remarkable success. Why you want to tie some random African view to the history of Black Americans is for some other idiotic reason.

No they aren't. They are Americans in mannerisms and ethics.

Sub-Saharan Africa is an incredibly diverse place (genetically speaking, they are the most diverse continent) with lots of different ways of living. Applying this lady's view to the entirety of the area is completely nonsensical.
