NEW ORLEANS — It's that time of year again. Saharan dust is starting to make it way from the coast of Africa into the Atlantic Ocean. This dust plume is expected to slowly travel westward across the Atlantic, Caribbean and into the Gulf of Mexico by next week.

We could see some of this dust in the New Orleans area sky starting next Tuesday, June 22nd.

“Hey everyone, run for your lives. There’s a shite cloud comin.”

Fun fact:

The topsoil in the Bahamas is the result of repetitive events (like this) of African Dust being blown and deposited there.

No word on whether the dust actually wanted to go to the New World,

Blown from Africa. Sent to America. Sounds like a Bob Marley lyric.
